Client PrivateStatus Construction documents in progress

At the start of every project we send out a questionnaire to our client. With questions ranging from favourite movies to how they like to spend their free time, we gather as much information about the client as possible which will fuel our creative process towards a tailored design. In our opinion, an open and personal approach leads to a better understanding of our clients wishes. In this way, storytelling becomes the backbone for our design.

In this project the foundation of the design lies in a combination of different movie directors that our clients admire. Their vision and aesthetic became the first domino pieces.

Lets start with Christopher Nolan.

When we look at the direction and cinematography style of Christopher Nolan, there are several elements that make his work unique. The most well-known element that Nolan plays with in all of his films is time. Whether it's in the present, past, future, parallel, or dream, it's the glue that holds all the actions in his films together. A house, in a way, is also a vessel of time. We live in it, from day to night, and multiple stories can unfold simultaneously in a house. That's why we've created zones for you that offer different functionalities and can be used in combination or separately from each other. A house that offers many functional combinations.

Another point of connection is the use of materials and light. Nolan can be considered a realist when it comes to lighting. He makes as much use of natural light as possible. This method results in dynamic images where light and shadow have a significant influence on storytelling. The two carefully placed skylights provide beautiful lighting that will be different at any time of the day. The light will therefore strongly influence the atmosphere in the respective spaces. The glass blocks also reference Nolan. The blocks act as a soft filter that lets light in but at the same time gives you the desired privacy. A mysterious and serene atmosphere.

Now lets look at Wes Anderson. A name that hardly needs an introduction because his iconic style is unmistakable. A mix of absurdism, symmetry, and a hefty dose of humor. Anderson loves theatricality and precision. His production design is truly unique thanks to the abundance of details, saturated colors, and fantastic costumes. We loved bringing his sense of symmetry in the layout of the living area. The flow of the house feels like it makes sense without ever consciously noticing it. Additionally, we gladly embraced humor. Creating unexpected moments like a bath in the closet and a hidden reading-listening corner that will become true Andersons like moments.

"Occasionally we shine a spotlight on Anderson. Think retro touches, the use of rich materials like velvet and wool, or bursts of color and unexpected form."
